  • 1.  VM Conveter freezing at 2%

For some reason at 2% Converter freezes, and then immediately reboots the computer. I am trying to create a virtual machine out of a physical machine. Not sure why but it freeze and reboots. I ran a scan disk and defrag in case and that didn't help.

Any idea why it is freezing, and rebooting? Is there a way around this?

I tried disabling all sorts of stuff and it still didn't work.

I instead created an Acronis full drive backup, and then created a new VM Workstation machine and restored with Acronis and it seemed to work. I wonder what the issue was?

Could it be the shadow volume issue? I didn't have acronis or anything watching the drive. Anyone have any ideas?

    Whats the problem ?

Running Converter is no art in itself - if it fails go to Plan B directly.

Your procedure with using Acronis is fine - it is also more reliable as using Converter as you just experienced yourself.

I have used converter seamlessly and easily on other machine's. For some reason this maching would fail at 2% rather quickly. I scan disked, defraged, and tried every option in Converter with no success. I ended up using acronis full image backup and restored it in a fresh vmware virtual machine and all seems to work perfect.

The only change I made on this machine recently was that I had to switch hard drives so I used acronis to do a full disk copy over, and the machine ran perfectly after that and did not require a re-activation so not much changed. That is the only change I can think of that I did that could cause Converter to fail.

I even reinstalled converter, still no luck.

As a follow up, Converter works flawlessly on other machines, but did not ever function on this machine and continued to freeze and reboot at 2%. Guess there is some problem that will never be known. I ended up using Acronis to create a full image backup, then restored that into a fresh VM virtual machine and it has been running flawlessly for days now.
