    Hi,

When VM console opened in vSphere Client, mouse is really lagging even after VMware Tools being installed, keyboard input lags a little bit, is there a solution to this?

    Thanks,

    William

I'm trying to understand the limitation of VMRC and solution to this if there is any. Of course if VM is accessible on network we can use RDP or XDMCP.

I've noticed the lag much more pronounced in server 2008 at the console, but not in 2003 servers.

Our VMs are mix of Windows 2008 and Redhat 5.5, I can confirm that mouse lag in W2K8 is much worse than RHEL.

Managed to resolve the problem by updating the video drivers from C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMware\Drivers\wddm_video after installing VMware Tools. I wonder why its not automated whilst installing the tools.

Its worked for the 3 servers that I have tried it on.

We're running ESXi 4.1, seems to already have the latest version of VMware Tools, what version are you running?

I'm not at the client site, so I don't know what version of VMware Tools. The ESX is version 4.1 and the manual driver upgrade resolves the issue.

Thanks. How did you upgrade VMware Tools?

In our Windows 2008 R2 guest VM, "Update Tools" is greyed out after popping up the tray icon, the installed version is 8.3.2-257589 which is the same as what's at http://packages.vmware.com/tools/esx/4.1latest/windows/x86_64/index.html

Also tried to upgrade via vCenter/vSphere client, choose Automatic it says VMware tools already up-to-date. Tried manually remove and re-install video driver, same lagging issue.

Did you follow Partydude's advice to install the wddm_video drivers?

    This should solve the issue.

Thanks for pointing this out, I was trying to update VMware Tools, instead it's the Windows Driver that needs to be manually updated with drivers loaded by VMware Tools on the hard drive, from "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (Microsoft)" to "VMware SVGA 3D", now no lagging on Windows 2008, feel the same as RDP :smileyhappy:

How about other OS like Redhat, Ubuntu etc, do we need to go through similiar procedure?

As a.p. put it, its not the VMware Tools that have to be upgraded but just the drivers from the specific Program Files folder.

Unfortunately I haven't tried RHEL or any other OSs, just Windows Server 2008 R2.
