  • 1.  VM cd drive is disconnected, but shown in windows device manager

    Hallo community,

in our environment we are facing a curious behavior on just one of 200 VM's.

In VM settings is a cd drive available as client device in passthrough IDE mode, but it's not connected or mounted.

The VM is running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition (32bit) as guest. If we connect to this VM and check the device manager

there is a cd-rom drive named "NECVMwar VMware IDE CDR10" active.

Does anyone see the same before?

Is there a solution available for this?

You're welcome with any kind of feedback.

    Kind Regards

If you have provided a client device as an option to the CDrom, the option for "connected or connect at power on" will be disabled, since these options will work with the VM powered on and get connected/disconnected in run time, i.e,  if you are mounting any iso from the VIclient that you are using to attach the iso.

Since, the device is available to the GOS, it is detected as the VMWare emulated device in dev manager. Try to delete the Cdrom and try accessing the dev manager, it will not show up.

It is because, for interpreting the iso mounted or any physical device to be mapped, vmware emulates this NEC VMWARE drive if added in GOS.
