virtual machine autoshutdown timeout

We have an ups configured to do a gracefull shutdown of the hypervisor ESXi 5.0 and we have all the virtual machines configured in automatic or any order start up and shut down. (shut down action = guest shutdown)

we have configured a 30s delay between one vm shutdown and the next one.

We have read that if one machine ends before the 30 sec timeout the next starts to shutdown. but we can't find any information about what happens if the machine do not finish shutting down in 30 seconds?

is a power off executed on that vm? or the hypervisor starts the next shutdown sequence in parallel? if no forced shutdown is performed if a vm hangs out shutting down the hypervisor will not shutdown?

    Thanks.
