Below is a link to a troubleshooting document to use. So are you having trouble open a remote console for a virtual machine you have running?

A few things to check assuming you have just installed this

    1) Have you added a license file to your license server for both Virtualcenter and the ESX hosts you wish to manage?

    2) Check the logs for VirtualCenter (see below PDF) and windows event logs on the VirtualCenter server.

    3) Are you able to add ESX hosts into VirtualCenter and manage them.

    4) To open a remote console for a VM on an ESX host, the VI client has to be able to connect directly to the ESX host (TCP port 905)

The remote console port is actually 903. Are you having problems logging in using the VI Client to VirtualCenter or just accessing the Console function of the VM's? Can you connect directly to the ESX server and log in with the VI Client?

    Port 902

    Used By:

    • ESX

    • VirtualCenter

    • VI Client

Authentication traffic for the ESX Server host and virtual machine configuration.

Use Port 902 for the following:

    • VI Client access to the VirtualCenter Server.

    • VirtualCenter Server access to ESX Server hosts.

    • Direct VI Client access to ESX Server hosts.

    • ESX Server host access to other ESX Server hosts for migration and provisioning.

    Incoming TCP, Outgoing UDP

    Port 903

    Used By:

    • ESX

    • VirtualCenter

    • VI Client

Remote console traffic generated by user access to virtual machines on a specific ESX Server host.

    Incoming TCP

Thanks a lot for quick response. I was not giving port name while accessing VS using VI Client. Now I am able to access VS using VI. But now, I am facing weird problem. After adding ESX server under Hosts Clusters, ESX server is going into "not responding" state automatically. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you login directly to the ESX host with the VI Client without problems? Also any firewalls between the VirtualCenter server and the ESX server?

Check to see if both vmware-hostd and vmware-vpxa are running. If you they are not try restarting them:

Login to the Service Console and type "service --status-all |grep running"

    To restart:

    service mgmt-vmware restart

    service vmware-vpxa restart

    Hello,

In the current state are you able to remove the recently added server from the cluster and then add it back? Do you get any options when you right click on the non-responding server?

Are you able to ping all servers between each other and the VS server using the FQDN?

Both Services are running fine on ESX server. Still from VS after some time ESX server are showing "not responding . I can access ESX using VI client without any problem. I can see only issue between ESX and VS.

Yes, i am able to remove server from console and add it back. Once I add it, after some time its not responding. If I forcefully says (by right click) disconnect and connect then it gets connected for a while and again shows not responding status.

Any special setting I need to do for VS?

    OK, cool.

Are you able to ping all servers between each other and the VS server using the FQDN?

Yes, I am able to ping it... Damm... This VS sucks.. Any patch I need to apply on VS?

I doubt a patch will help your issue. How is your network configured on the ESX host you are having problems with. Specifically how is your vswitch defined for the Service Console? Do you have any VM's on the vswitch that your service console is on?

I am now experiencing this same issue with a secondary site. One of the ESX hosts on a DL380 is working correctly (with running VMs) - however, the ESX hosts running on HP Blade Servers (without running VMs) exhibit the "not responding" issue. I can connect them by right clicking - but then within about 1 minute they are gone again. I can log into each individual and manage them without issue. I can ping between all of them - checked running services (all appear to be running fine) - does not seem to be firewall issue - - any other ideas?

I also see Anonymous login requests on the Virtual Center Server itself - - is this related??

    Thanks.

Can u access ur ESX server direct with the VC client? instead of using the VC Mgmt Server?

Could also be a compability issue between ur client, vc mgmt srv and esx.

    Also check DNS settings.
