view connection server domain help please

ok, I don't know where to put this so I hope this is a good area. I have been trying to install view connection server on my last windows 2003 server. I have built a home lab with a dedicated server for vCenter, AD, and View Connection. when trying to install View Connection Server 4.5 its telling me:

"This computer is a member of a domain, but no logon servers can be found. Please ensure that this computer is correctly joined to a domain and that a domain controller is available before attempting this installation again"

ok, so I logged into the view connection windows 2003 server using active directory so why is it giving me this error??

Hi,

Have you checked the DNS settings? You also can try to install View using IP address instead of FQDN of vCenter, but this is not a good practice.

Start by pingging your DNS server from the AD server. Also, try pinging the DNS server from the VM you are trying to install View on. You may want to try rejoining it to the domain by using the NET DOM command. We do this in our environment when everything checks okay but cannot quite figure our what the problem is. You can also check event viewer on the VM to see if it is throwing any Kerberos events related to the certificate expring this sure evidence that the server may need to be rejoined to the domain. Has the VM been off for sometime??

Thanks...Since this is my home lab I'm using my router as my dns. I did have to alter that for the correct address but still does not work. The vm has been on for a while. I'm updating my AD windows 2003 server with all updates now. Everything pings correctly.

Event Viewer shows

under system "The time provider NtpClient was unable to find a domain controller to use as a time source. NtpClient will try again in 240 minutes"

and

under application "Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. (The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.) Group Policy processing aborted."

I'll try again to take off the domain and put back on. Any other ideas?

Hi,

The NTP error is because that it's the only domain controller of Active Directory and you haven't configured the NTP service.

In the other hand, on Active Directory you have to install and configure the DNS service on the domain controller and to configure the network settings in order to point the DNS to itself.

Ok, so I can't get my vCenter service to start. My sql server is up and running (i understand sometimes it takes a while upon startup). But, now that it is started I still can't get my vCenter server service to start. Any ideas? the error code is:

Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

And the event viewer shows: The VMware VirtualCenter Server service depends on the following nonexistent service: MSSQLSERVER
