Hi I have a question about VDI storage.

Would placing the Virtual Desktop machines on a well equipped host storage rather than SAN be worthwhile? We're only using 10 virtual workstations and well, would like to move the virtual workstations off of SAN to hope for better performance, since the workstation have heavier read/write or IOPs than servers. Is this something worth while?

This is going to depend entirely on the performance of your SAN vs your local storage. It may be the case that using local disks provides better performance than your SAN all though this is probably not the norm.

Using local storage will mean you cannot migrate your desktops since there is no shared storage. Keep that in mind. A solution to that would be to use VMware VSAN if you have a license.

    Cyberfed,

Thank you for pointing these things out.
