VCSA 7.0.3 stuck on staging at 30%

    Hi.

we are having some issues on a vcenter.

We did the staging only on the latest update but it got stuck on 30%. Because of this, we didn't did a snapshot as we were going to do it once the staging was completed.

We already restarted the machine multiple times but once the systems boots up, the staging is again on 30%.

When we try to cancel we got that message on red.

What can we do to fix this and update the vcenter ?

    Thx in advance

    Hi,

You should a taken VM snapshot for the vCenter appliance server before doing the staging.

This never happened. We always do the snapshot, after the staging is completed.

     Thx for the help

Try patching to 1800 then 1900 and see if that makes a difference.

The other issue is When the VCSA cannot locate the default vmware.com site repository the VCSA will display this error. Log into the vCenter appliance and run a telnet/nc on port 443 to vmware.com and if it fails then you need to open access to the VMware download repository.

I am not sure I understand your question. Do you mean you cannot find you license in the portal or are you trying to purchase licenses?

I see you said you registered an account on support.broadcom.com? After the migration, did you confirm your account was successfully migrated? Did you export your keys and account information from your VMware account pre-migration as was the recommendation? If you have your contract number, you should be able to contact them. However, you will probably need to call them. It maybe that your contract was miss assigned or not properly ported over. Here is the process for creating a licensing issue ticket:

Create a Non Technical case for Support Portal / License / Contract related issues (broadcom.com)

You can also use chat or scroll try a number for your region.

    Contact Broadcom support

I was able to get my licensing issues resolved fairly quickly.

This is the email I see in my inbox from past:

    Dear Valued VMware Customer,
Broadcom Inc. recently acquired VMware (Press Release<https: investors.broadcom.com/news-releases/news-release-details/broadcom-completes-acquisition-vmware="">) and as a result of the acquisition, all VMware support accounts (ie. VMware Customer Connect) are being migrated to Broadcom's support accounts. Your VMwaresupport account will stop working on May 6, 2024.
Please take action now. You must activate your Broadcom support account and update your profile informationbefore you can access the Broadcom Support Portal.
To activate your Broadcom account, click your unique link here and follow the prompts that begin with resetting your password from the Broadcom screen. You can refer to this article<https: ent.box.com/s/52acyi1t3abc51xbss93x69xeox4p2zd=""> for detailed instructions.
Once you activate your account successfully, you will be directed to the Broadcom Support Portal<https: support.broadcom.com="">, where it will show you as logged in, with your name appearing in the upper right of your screen. Please note that your active VMwareproduct entitlements will not be made available in the Broadcom Support Portal until May 6, 2024.
If you experience any issues, please first try and resolve your issue by using Broadcom's Self Service Bot, located on this page: https://support.broadcom.com/. If the problem persists, please contact Broadcom Customer Care.<https: support.broadcom.com/web/ecx/contact-support="">
    Thank you,
    Broadcom Support

And the links for article or your unique link here does not work.

Just to verify, you are logged in as root when doing the upgrade, correct? Also, you can look at the logs located here to see what exact step is having a problem:

    /var/log/vmware/applmgmnt

While the below instructions are for checking updates and upgrading to 8, but it shows how to stop the service and delete the repositories. This should stop the update and reset everything. Then check for updates and make sure the packages are clean. There should really be a snapshot before doing this, but as you said, you did not do a pre upgrade snapshot.

if you have the ISO, try:

ssh to the appliance using root.

    # appliancesh

    # software-packages unstage

    once it has finished, try:

    # software-packages stage --iso --acceptEulas

    # software-packages list --staged

    # software-packages install --staged

This happened to me earlier this year and based on my email flow this is what fixed my vcenter

    # Create a copy of the software_update_state.conf file. The file is located in the /etc/applmgmt/appliance/ directory
    cp software_update_state.conf software_update_state_backup.conf

    # Stop the applmgmt service.
    service-control --stop applmgmt

    # Delete the software_update_state.conf file.
    rm software_update_state.conf

    # Confirm the applmgmt service starts successfully.
    service-control --start applmgmt

#Now try cancelling the update and starting again
