    Posted 21 hours ago

    Hello,

Below are our current versions of vCenter and ESXi.  We are planning to upgrade to vCenter 8 and then slowly upgrade the ESXi to 8.0.  We checked the compatibility list but want to run by the community to double check on running vCenter 8 with mixed ESXi 7 & 8 versions won't have any issues.  The entire process will take about 2 -3 weeks.  Thanks.

    Current vCenter:

    Version:
    7.0.3.01800
    Build number:
    22837322

    Current ESXi : VMware ESXi, 7.0.3, 23307199

Tonight we will have completed this - we have had mixed versions for months.

We upgraded in the following order, and had no issues:

    1. vCenter appliances
    2. vSAN witnesses
    3. ESXi hosts

What methods did you use?  I tried these and was not success.  I only listed versions 7 instead of 8 for the option 1 URL Patching:

We patched via ISO, then updated the URL in vCenter VAMI to the token URL

6.7+ hosts are supported and compatible with vCenter 8.  We are upgrading our environment and have a mix of 6.7, 7, and 8 hosts.  No issues whatsoever.  As long as the host is supported, you can run it indefinitely on vCenter 8.
