    Hello all,

    i have the following situation:

    1) the origin and the destination are separate and they don't see each other.

    2) veeam backup and restore 8 on each side not connected

    3) the origin is only 1 ESX

    3) i backed up the VMs from the origin side and I exported the backups

    4) on the destination side I have vcenter plus enterprise 6.0 and I have 2 ESXs

    5) i need to restore the VMs on the destination side from the .vbk files and these files are available on the local disk of the destination side

Now my question is: how would you suggest to proceed about the backup recovery? Should I set up all the vcenter environment and point veeam to the vcenter or can I point veeam to one single esx and back up the VMs and then set up the vcenter between the two esx?

    Thank you.

I want to understand your issue a bit better. You're trying to migrate virtual machines from one vcenter to another using Veeam?

    No.

The old environment is composed by 1 ESX and I access to it directly. I installed Veeam on a Windows server and i backed up the VMs with .vbk files.

The new environment is composed by 2 ESX and i decided to buy also a vcenter to manage the HA configuration.

I installed Veeam on the new Windows server where is the Vcenter installed and i need to recovery the back up VMs on the new infrastructure.

I'm new to Vcenter and also to Veeam and that's why i ask it to the community!!!

    Thank you.

why not add the single host in the old environment to the same vCenter and migrate the VM's?  If this not possible due to networking limitations.

Yes you can point the veeam to vCenter server and restore the backup on the new environment.

    Hello Avinash,

I have big limitations because the new and the old environment are on different cloud providers. I should put up a vpn between them.

    That's another option.

    Thank you.

    Avinash,

if i could make the three esx in communication (1old+2 new), is it mandatory that these esx sharing the same storage to recover the back up from old to new?

    Thank you.

    Hi,

Yes, if we are restoring from a backup then we need common datatsores. How ever since your esxi and VC is 6.0 check if you could cross vmotion across vcenters?

    Hello Avinash,

i don't think i can do it because the old one is only an esx without vcenter and it's vsphere v.6.0 free edition.
