vCenter Converter Standalone to vSphere Hypervisor

Here is the situation.

I would like to P2V convert an existing Windows 2000 server and bring the newly created virtual server into vSphere Hypervisor 5.1.

Is this possible with the free vCenter Converter Standalone?  What version of the Converter will I need to use to P2V a server 2000 machine and will I then have to use an older version of ESXI instead of vSphere Hypervisor 5.1?

Any thoughts?

Hi,

On page 19 and 20 of this manual for Converter 5.0, Windows 2000 is not listed as an supported operating system. Sorry. (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/convsa_50_guide.pdf)

But, the latest version that supports it is version 4.0.1 of the Converter (see video on howto: http://www.vi-tips.com/2011/11/p2v-with-vmware-converter-standalone-5.html). But it only supports moving it to ESXi/vCenter 4.0. Then you can keep moving the virtual machine up until you get to your version.

The VMware converter you can download here... (https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/evalcenter?p=converter) Click on the license and download tab, and login to your my VMware account. You should see the latest version and all the past one's available for download.

ESXi 4.0 you can download here... (https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/evalcenter?p=free-esxi&lp=default). Again, same procedure, click on the license and download tab, and login to your my VMware account. You should see 4.1 and below (4, 4 update 1... and so on) available for download.

I successful performed conversation using vCenter Converter Boot CD. He allow connecting to vCenter 5.1.1b
