VCb and Commvault

    Hi All,

    Does anyone use VCB and Commvault to backup images of their VMs.

    If so, I just can't get it to work.

    In the config.js under host, what should I put, as I'm running a cluster ,any VM could be on any of the Hosts, do I put all ESX hosts in?

    The Commvault Guide I think is pretty useless for anything other than setting a particular ESX hosting a particular VM.

    Thanks

    Chris

    OK, I've semi answered this myself.

    I added the VC as the host in th econfig.js file.

    I can now run the script and the files appear in the correct folder for backup.

    But I have the problem of 'Nonzero code" in commvault when trying to run this as a prescan.

    I have tried two of the suggestion in previous threads, on was to put "/d" before the CD in the batch file and the other to move it to the root

    Thanks

    Chris

    We run VCB and Commvault at our firm. It's worked fine for the most part. Can you run the prescan script outside of commvault? I would run the prescan script from your VCB proxy host to make sure it runs correctly before using it as a prescan script in commvault.

    Sounds like you have this sorted now, but for anyone searching and finding this thread in future, Chris Skinner wrote a proven practice on Commvault + VCB over on the VIOPS pilot:

    Thanks, Dave, beat me to it... see you at VMworld? I'm a "booth babe" somewhere there...

    I will be there. I am speaking, as you already know (and hawking the new VIOPS site!). I am also a booth babe. I think it is #1334....Do you know which booth you are "babe-ing"?

    Hey Dave, not sure what code my booth has, but I'll be there Monday eve for the kick off and in the VMware bit - there should be a big VIOPS sign so come over and talk!

    BTW - we used to have an automation zone on VIOPS but dropped it... I'm thinking of restarting it with a specific Scripting part - what do you think? A collection of proven scripts, with a practice wrapped round them (ie. what product, where used, who did it, why they did it that way)..

    Steve -

    I'm arriving Sunday morning. I need to spend some time with the session police to make sure my last minute changes make it into my preso. I will hunt you down on Monday. Make sure you save me some VIOPS schwag...

    Yes. I was the one who added kickstart scripting and RDP/Altiris to the little survey about proven practices... But basic batch, shell, perl, VB, WSF, powerscripts would ALL be nice. I know ther is a small snippets section on this forum, but having "Proven Scripts" that are tested by someone other than the creator would be great! It may be a huge undertaking though.

    good idea. how would the community look structured to you? Suggestion as follows - this is, as long as a Proven Script has the tag "script" we can pull them all out, no matter what the topology of the community is

    <automation>

    -> HA

    ---> scripts

    -> DRS

    ---> scripts

    -> SRM

    ---> scripts

    -> VCB

    ---> scripts

    I'm open to ideas :smileyhappy:

    I created a link from VIOPS to depping's link - so on VIOPS we now have the Chris Skinner Commvault + VCB doc + depping's one liners... awesome!
