  • 1.  V2V Conversion..

    Dear team,

    i have two sites one is prod and second is dr, i want to clone/copy one of the prod poweredon VM at DR site. i just want to confirm once i do v2v conversion with the help of vcenter standalone converter , will it copy/clone the VM or it will direclty migrate from prod to DR.

    The V2V process using Standalone Converter will produce  copy of the source VM onto the destination.  So, you source VM will not be moved our impacted.

    Also, if you source and destination ESX Host are managed by the same vCenter instance you can power off the source VM and clone it to the destination without the need for converter.

    Source and Destionation ESX Host are not managed by same esx host.

    As mentioned above, it will copy/clone the VM to the desitnation host....the source will be intact.

    alternately you also have an option of copying the vmdk and vmx files (using WinSCP, Veeam, etc) and registering it on the destination host.

    depending on your comfortability you can choose either option....best of luck!
