I was wondering if anyone else has had any experience trying to pass through a USB TV tuner on ESXi to a guest VM?

I have added the device to a Windows 10 VM, and the device is found and drivers install successfully, but when I use the TV software to scan for channels, nothing is found.

I had similar behaviour when attempting to share the device over the network instead using software.

Hauppage aren't particularly helpful in this scenario, as they say they only support physical desktop OSes, so I suspect I am between a rock and a hard place when it comes to getting support for this scenario.

    Cheers

Interesting Question,Are you able to find something in the Tuner logs?

At this point, I am not even sure where the logs are (my current query I have logged with Hauppage).

If I can get some info back on where to look for logs, I will post anything I find.

I know the hardware and software etc. are good, because it works perfectly on a standalone PC with Windows 10, so it's definitely the passthrough where the issue lies.

Were you able to get anywhere on this? I'm having the exact same issue, to the "T".

At first thought it was due to a server OS so I loaded Windows 10, but ran across the same issue. A Physical machine works fine, though.

running VMware ESXi, 6.5.0 Update 1, (5969303) if that helps any.

Nope. Ended up ditching the USB tuner, and getting a HDHomeRun network tuner instead. Works like a charm.
