    hi guys,

    i don't know if i'm right here. I have a problem with my hauppauge WinTV-dualHD dvb-c tuner.

    I use a vmware esxi 6.7 host (6.7.0 Update 1 (Build 13004448)) and a vm with ubuntu 18.04.2 (open-vm-tools 10.3.0 build 8931395). I use a USB 3 and a USB 2 controller in the VM - same problem.

I configure the vm with the usb device and i can see this device in my vm. I installed the drivers via ppa from hauppauge and tvheadend.

The strange thing is that i can see the usb-tuners and configure them, but the tv-channel scan can't find something (but the tuner led is blinking - whats is right). in tvheadend the bandwidth is 0 - that is not correct. maybe there are some usb parameters - i can't find a list or somethink like that with the parameters and there meanings.

i use the same config on a native ubuntu server system with the same install and config - there are no problems.

i know it's a not supportet device, but maybe you can help me? =)

    best regards
    trayntab

is there a way to debug it?

Do i need a extra driver on the esxi host?

I Actually discovered the exact same problems with my setup.

Got my Hands on a Server - for which I Installed Ununtu18.04 and have allso tried Debian 4.9 - for running MythTV on this server instead

Can see the devices - configure the units. etc - Ca see all firmware are loaded to the DVB-S/S2 Device

    root@maincore:~/ffdecsawrapper# lsusb

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub

Bus 001 Device 006: ID 14f7:0500 TechniSat Digital GmbH DVB-PC TV Star HD

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0e0f:0002 VMware, Inc. Virtual USB Hub

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0e0f:0002 VMware, Inc. Virtual USB Hub

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 14f7:0500 TechniSat Digital GmbH DVB-PC TV Star HD

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0e0f:0003 VMware, Inc. Virtual Mouse

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

I can see both dvbscan,w_scan and MythTV - are locking on the transport - but finds no Channel. Is this only a problem with the initial scanning or isn't it poossible anymore to scan for dvb-S/S2

    trying 'S  f = 11357 kHz H SR = 24500  7/8 0,35  QPSK  (0:0:0)'

    (time: 02:00.511)         signal ok:    S  f = 11357 kHz H SR = 24500  7/8 0,35  QPSK  (0:0:0)

Info: no data from PAT after 2 seconds

            deleting (S  f = 11357 kHz H SR = 24500  7/8 0,35  QPSK  (0:0:0))

    trying 'S  f = 11372 kHz V SR = 24500  7/8 0,35  QPSK  (0:0:0)'

    (time: 02:03.719)

    trying 'S  f = 11389 kHz H SR = 24500  7/8 0,35  QPSK  (0:0:0)'

    (time: 02:06.187)         signal ok:    S  f = 11389 kHz H SR = 24500  7/8 0,35  QPSK  (0:0:0)

Info: no data from PAT after 2 seconds

            deleting (S  f = 11389 kHz H SR = 24500  7/8 0,35  QPSK  (0:0:0))

And my Old MythTV running on 16.04 doesn't have that problem - but neither allso the the newest MythTV

    Finalizing the scanning with

    ERROR: Sorry - i couldn't get any working frequency/transponder

    Nothing to scan!!

I had contact to the hauppauge Support. in my case there is an option to change the usb modus from Isoc to bulk. now the scan find tv channels. But now i have artefacts and error pixels in the streams. :smileysad:

Hi there, just want do add my experience with this problem.

I'm also using the Hauppauge Dual TV USB with my ESXi at home. As long as I stay on ESXi 6.0, everything works fine. Doing passthrough of the USB device to my Windows Server 2019 with Plex Media Server, everything works, scanning for channels, watching tv etc.

Yesterday I tried the upgrade/fresh install of 6.7 and re-registered my VM and added the device but nothing happened. Normally Plex would do a EPG-refresh after a reboot, but it doesn't and watching tv also fails. The device is available in my VM as it was before but not working properly.

Tried the rollback (I'm always installing on USB media, so no problem) to 6.0 and it worked again. Might be a driver problem with the ehci/uhci/xhci vib package from 6.7 I suppose.
