Pre-upgrade check failed due the following problem: The appliance configuration has failed, so this action is not allowed in the current state.

Provide the details for the source vCenter Server Appliance (6.7 or 7.0) that you want to upgrade.

Unable to move forward with Stage 2. Power cycled vCenter server multiple times. Unable to locate KBs with specific message. Upgrading vSphere Client version 7.0.3.01400 to 8.0

    Any thoughts?

I've run into this and my suspicion was that DNS was oblivious to the temporary IP address. What worked for me was to use IP addresses whenever possible when entering information for stage 2. Even if the entry has a DNS name, use the IP address instead. May be a bug also.

    Hi

    See steps below

    1. I'd start by upgrading vCenter 7.0.3.01400 (U3L) to 7.0.3.01600 (U3N) then run the upgrade again. There may be bugfixes in U3n that address issues with 7.0 → 8.0 upgrades.
    2. Check you have sufficient space on your vCenter disks to run the upgrade (Check health and disks in the VAMI eg https://vc-ip:5480
    3. Are you running a pre-upgrade check, before running the upgrade to check it passes? If not do that first and examine the results
    4. See link for how to download vCenter logs to check for failed upgrade. You may find a clue as to the cause of the problem.

If it still fails, please post a screenshot of the error so we can see at which step of Stage 2 the upgrade fails.

    Hope this helps

Appreciate the feedback and detailed steps. I'll try the upgrade to 7.0.3.01600 (U3n)  as a first step.

And yes the pre-upgrade check was  successful. Updates to follow

So I burned it down and started over, got further along and then received this message "Failed to Set Network". Double checked the distributed switches and found that they were on 6.6, oops. Updated to 7.03 and bingo bango. Upgrade to 8.0 successful!

Appreciate the KBs and nudge in the right direction. Thanks!
