    So I have the following setup:

    vCenter Name:     MyvCenter01

    Curr. Ver: 5.5.0 4180647 => I think this is "vCenter Server 5.5 Update 3e"

    Hosts:

    Name: MyHost01

    ESXi Ver: 5.5.0 3248547 => I think this is "ESXi 5.5 Update 3b"

    Name: MyHost02

    ESXi Ver: 5.5.0 3248547 => I think this is "ESXi 5.5 Update 3b"

    I would like to upgrade the vCenter server and hosts to the latest 6.0.0 software. Would I be correct in saying the following?

    1. Upgrade the vCenter server using "vCenter Server 6.0 U3h" which I assume is Build "9313458" and Installer Build "9451619". I assume this is the package here (https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?downloadGroup=VC60U3H&productId=491)?

    2. Next, upgrade the hosts to "ESXi 6.0 Express Patch 18" patch: "ESXi600-201810001" Build: "10474991" as shown here (VMware ESXi 6.0, Patch Release ESXi600-201810001). Do I just download this file and when applied it updates my 5.5.0 hosts to "ESXi 6.0 Express Patch 18" - the latest 6.0.0 version?

    Hello,

    With VMware vSphere its not that complicated to upgrade/migrate, but you have to be careful of a group things, for that I prefer to check the following:

    Please consider marking this answer "CORRECT" or "Helpful" if you think your question have been answered correctly.

    I'm concerned about the 5.5.0 hosts. It seems that I have to manually perform the following:

    1. Download and run the vCenter Server update to update the vCenter from 5.5.0 to 6.0.0.

    2. Download the ESXi 6.6.0 image.

    3. Open the vSphere client, navigate to the new vCenter then import the ESXi 6.0.0 image and apply it to each host.

    4. Via Update Manager, manually download the V6.x patches & upgrades to the repository.

    5. Using Update Manager, manually apply the V6.x patches & upgrades.

    Is this correct?

    Is there any way I can download the V6.x patches & upgrades before the upgrade from 5.5.0?

    Hi Mike, that link was more about migrating from a Windows VC to a VC appliance?

    What I'd like to ask is, if I have a V5.5.0 vCenter appliance and I want to upgrade it to the latest V6.0.0 vCenter appliance, what is the process?

    Here's what I think I have to do:

    1    From my workstation, navigate to "\\MyFileServer\VMware\vCenter\6.0 U3f Appliance" and mount the ISO "VMware-VCSA-all-6.0.0-8874690.iso" to PowerISO.

    2    Snapshot the V5.0.0 vCenter server vcClusterName\VCServerName.

    3    On my workstation, open the vcsa-setup.html file that is located in the ISO image.

    4    Install the Client Integration Plugin.

    5    Choose embedded PSC option.

    Upgrade vCenter server.
    Upgrade vSphere Client
    Upgrade vSphere Web Client
    Upgrade Update Manager

    6    Finalise upgrade and exit application

    7    Detach ISO from my workstation.

    8    Log into the appliance on port 5480 as root.

    9    Check and apply new updates in the Update tab.

    10    Update CMDB.

    11    Wait 2x days.

    12    Remove snapshot.

    Is this the correct method to upgrade a V5.5.0 VCSA appliance to V6.6.0 VC appliance?
