I kicked off the scheduled task to download new updates for Update Manger in VC 2.5 and the Update Signature task is stuck at 66% and the Cancel option on it is greyed out. How do I clear it?

you can restart the vmware update manager services from your windows server

If it doesn't work, you can kill the process from task manager. To verify the update is hung or not, you should check the folder which contain the patches is growing or not

You might need to just restart the communication services between virtualcenter and the esx host. Log into the esx host and restart the mgmt-vmware service (service mgmt-vmware restart) then restart the vpxa service (service vmware-vpxa restart) . Log into the virtualcenter server and under the services, restart the VMware VirtualCenter Server service, which will kill any open VIC connections. Then reconnect to the VC and see if the job has cleared.

Depending on the number of updates that are pending, it could take a while. I had about 200 updates or so that were downloaded and it took a little over an hour to complete. But it did complete successfully.

Restarting services as the others have suggested would work. However, you should be sure that it really IS stuck. As one of the other posters mentioned, it could take a while. The easiest way to tell if it's doing something, in my experience, has just been to check the size of the Update Manager patch storage directory periodically. If it's growing, then UM is actually downloading stuff.

Hope that helps! Please help me out by marking my response as "helpful" or "correct" if you feel that it was useful!
