    Hi all,

I'm tryng to update a vm with Windows server 2008 R2, but I receive the error "Patch scan of remediation is not supported on <server name> because of unsupported or unknown OS".

If I understand well the compatibility matrix (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.pdf), note n. 13: Patching of the guest operating system is not supported.

    I'm using

    vSphere Client 4.1

    vCenter Sever 4.1

    vCenter Update Manager 4.1

If is not supported....how can I patch all of this type os OS?

With the latest version of vSphere, VMware completely removed the ability to patch guest operating systems from the Update Manager. To update/patch the different guest OS's you will have to use vendor or 3rd party tools. For Windows you may either use the "WIndows Update" function or implement a WSUS server in your environment.

    IMHO....seems like a stupid choice!

OK, who has 1-2 vserver...there's no a big difference....but who has 10-20-30+ vserver, making updates becomes a job that takes up too much time to other activities....
