Unmount storage options grey out

Hi,

Why is the unmount datastore option were grey out on this datastore ?

I dont use Storage IO Control.

This lun were result of replication (we are using Lenovo DM Series, source storage NetApp FAS 3000 series).

When mount Lenovo DM Series to new server, I use Keep signature option.

The strange part also, I need to do esxcfg-volume -M (persistent) on each hosts on the cluster.

Did the keep signature has affect on the greyed unmount datastore ?

try unmounting from command line

esxcfg-volume -U

share log and error if any

command successfully executed.

command unmount only the host, not all cluster.

is this common ?

It unmounts only at host level.. the command needs to be run at every host in the cluster

Hi adgate,

The cause is different from my scenario.

THis is happen because I use Keep signature option when mounting the datastore from storage replication result.

There no broken path, host is not disconnected. All is still in good condition.

I already simulate same situation and use resignature option, there is no problem.

The unmount options shows up in the web ui.

All host in the cluster automatically see the new datastore.

No problem when grow the datastore (see my other thread in here : Problem when grow datastore )

Please share your experience when using keep signature option when mount the datastore fellas.

I'm having exactly the same behavior like you.

I use LUN replicas mounted without VMFS resignature on a DR site and H5/web client does not allow an unmount of such datastores.

Command line works well (esxcli storage filesystem unmount -u <UUID>).

Did you find a reason?

I had this recently too.

RVtools saved me - searched for datastore that I'd taken offline months ago but still showed in vcenter datastore browser.  Options to mount or dismount were greyed out.

My solution was finding 3 templates had DVD ROM ISOs associated with old volume.  I converted each to VM, edited DVD setting then converted back to template and disappeared immediately.
