Hi,
I am waiting for my account to be added to our support agreement to raise a support case with VMware, so am posting in here in the interim to see if anyone can guide me.
We have a couple of Server 2019 VMs that we are backing up with Veeam. The first backup that ran a week and a bit ago was fine and completed successfully. The next backup that ran this past weekend failed.
When attempting to run a manual snapshot in vCenter with guest file system quiescing, the snapshot fails with the standard generic error:
"An error occurred while quiescing the virtual machine. See the virtual machine's event log for details. An error occurred while taking a snapshot: Failed to quiesce the virtual machine. An error occurred while saving the snapshot: Failed to quiesce the virtual machine."
Looking at the Windows event log on the two VMs, I see one VSS event ID 8193, as shown below:

Searching the registry for the provider ID, I see this is the VMware Snapshot Provider:

The Vmware Snapshot Provider must be available, as it shows as a service in Services. Listing the providers via vssadmin however, it is not registered:

Deleting the registry entries for that provider, allows the snapshot to complete successfully, but the VM bluescreens. Restoring the entries reverts the behaviour to failing snapshots.
I have tried reinstalling/uninstalling and installing VMware tools, but this does not seem to have helped.
I'm not sure what else I can try to resolve this issue, so not sure if anyone can point me in the right direction?
Thanks
James
