  • 1.  Unable to edit or delete a virtual switch

    Posted Sep 27, 2010 05:12 PM

I receive the message "Call "HostNetworkSystem.UpdateVirtualSwitch" for object "networkSystem"" when attempting to remove a nic from the virtual switch.

When I attempt to remove it from the command line i get "Not a valid virtual switch or itis a DVSwitch"

esxcfg-vswitch -l is shown in the attachments

I cannot delete or change any of the virtual switches vSwitch1, vSwitch2 or vSwitch3

    This is ESXi 4.1

I don't have a test system at the moment, so this is just a guess.

Add a port group to the vSwitch and then try to remove the NICs.

I cannot add a port group. Through the gui i get an error. Via the command line i get "no such virtual switch"

Maybe something holding the vmnic. Have you try to restart vmware mgmt service & run the command $esxcfg-vSwitch -U vmnic2 vSwitch0

The vmnic removal fails as the cli does not see vswitch1

Thanks for putting the command there.  That worked for me.

    I was using -d and not -U
