  • 1.  Unable to check filesystem on /altbootbank

    Posted Jan 09, 2019 08:54 PM

While upgrading my host I get this error:

    [ Installation Error]

There was an error checking file system on altbootbank, please see log for detail.

I also went ahead and did the dosfsck repair /altbootbank partition but the dosfsck unfortunately doesn't completes.I receive Connection timed out. I want to upgrade my host but I am seeing the same error again.

Is it possible to clear the /altbootbank partition.

How can I upgrade from this version without compromising any of the vm's on that host

I have attached the screenshots below.

    Thank you

    Hi,

Errors on /altbookbank partition are a bit tricky to resolve sometimes.

As you may know, this partition is used for storing the a copy of the current image of the hypervisor in case you need to return to that version.

You should check the /var/log/vmkernel.log and maybe this link can help you: VMware Knowledge Base

Also, are you upgrading with VUM or doing it manually?

If you are having more problems with that and don't waste more time in investigating, best option is to backup the configuration you

think you need from the ESXi, and install the new version with a fresh ISO.
