You can't use that type of peer-to-peer networking connection in ESXi. ESXi does not support Thunderbolt networking, although there are some unsupported drivers and devices that allow Thunderbolt-connected storage, but not cross-connected networking.

Thanks guys for the quick reply.

Is there another recommended way to do this?

What is it you want to do, exactly?

I need to setup a second network adapter on each Windows 2016 Cluster server. I have two of them and both are on different ESXI hosts.

Add a second vNIC to each VM and select an appropriate switch for them to communicate over the network.

I think your confusing VMware with Apple, it will take VMware a decade to support thunderbolt.  You Mac users have it so easy, and now you want your servers to be easy too.  What you need is a batch of fiber channel or SCSI drives, maybe some EISA cards and such...

next your gonna ask for CEPH file system support or Gluster or maybe ZFS in the base OS or something even more crazy is applications that run on the hypervisor, like we had back in the Netware days with NLM's. LOL

Don't try to get Dell/VMware to be better than Microsoft, VMware is suppose to die like Netscape, WordPerfect, Primavera and others.  You know it is cheaper if one company in the world sells all the cars, computers and other such things...  We all care only about the cheaper
