Out of the blue I get an error when I click the Storage Views tab on any of my Clusters. The error message is: The storage service is not initialized. Please try again later.

    I'm using ESX 4 U 1. vSphere Client 4.0.0 Build 208111. vCenter Server 4.0.0 Build 162856.

    Any help would be great!

Andre, thank you for the quick reply! I have and this is what I get:

    com.ibatis.common.jdbc.exception.NestedSQLException:

--- The error occurred in com/vmware/vim/sms/data/xml/CacheDbQuerySqlMap.xml.

--- The error occurred while applying a parameter map.

    --- Check the insert_scsiVolume-InlineParameterMap.

--- Check the statement (update failed).

--- Cause: org.h2.jdbc.JdbcSQLException: Unique index or primary key violation: ENTITYID_SCSIVOLUME_INDEX_5 ON PUBLIC.SCSIVOLUME(ENTITYID)

Seems a problem in the VCDB.

But I notice that there is also a bug fix in the U1 version, so first try to update your vCenter to U1.

    http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere4/doc/vsp_vc40_u1_rel_notes.html

Storage Management Service fails to initialize

The Storage Management Service (SMS) fails to initialize. After you log in to vCenter from the vSphere Client, you might see the following error message when you click the Storage View tab:

The storage service is not initialized. Please try again later.

    Thanks Andre. I thought I had U1 on there, but I guess I didn't.

I am having the same problem and it was working up until today with nothing changing. I updated to the lasted versions and still have the problem. Any thoughts before i call for support?

I solved that by granting the user I use to log on to vCenter the "Act as part of the operating system" user right on the vCenter server.
