    Hi,

    I am about to make a new SAN purchase....yes exciting times for us!

    Just want some community opinions as to what your thoughts are for my scenario.

    We have entry level requirements, don't need much capacity but want the best performance at the best price.

    After speaking to all vendors these are their recommendations:

    Dell = PS4110 - 10GB Ethernet SAN + 2 x 10GBE switches

    EMC = VNXe 3300 10GB Ethernet SAN + 2 x GBe Switches

    HP = P2000 with dual SAS controllers + hosts directly connected.

    Favouring the HP option at the moment as it does not require the switches to be purchased, I don;t really need morke than 4 esx5 hosts connected as out environment is not that big.

    I am more concerned with performance. Will shared SAS using MPIO and VAAI blitz the 10gbe options from dell and EMC?

    6gbps SAS = 750 MBps / interface

    8 x 6gbps interfaces @ 750MBps per interface = 6000 MBps theoretical seqential throughput in total for the system. Does this not impress? I think this is amazing if it is achievable.

    What are your thoughts?

    Apparently if I need more than 4 reduandant hosts connected I can buy a LSI SAS switch.....

    Is this not a check mate situation?

    I need some solid feeback.

    Thanks all!
