SRM Failover Failed with RecoveryPoint

    Hi Folks,

we have setup SRM with RecoveryPoint array. We had no issues with any configuration. But when we validated failover we get the following error at recovery steps.

Error - Failed to sync data on replica consistency group '****'. Replication is not active for some reason in group copy.

I have attached the recovery plan history report for reference. Can anyone knows what could cause this issue?

FYI. In RP consistency group policy we set 'SRM' and Managed by "External Application" (this is what our storage team done though I had no clue what this means). Also I don't know if this is what causing the issue.

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Hari.

We are using EMC RecoverPoint Storage Replication Adapter version 2.1.

Thanks for the info. Can you I ask you a question as well? I just posted a new discussion but I figured I'd ask you since you have yours set up.

Do you mind sharing your RecoverPoint set up? Our storage guys have set RecoverPoint, but when ever I try and add the array it fails to connect. Not sure where the problem may be, I installed the latest adapter which is now 2.2.0.0. But I think something on the Unisphere may need additional attention.

    Any advice or help, Thanks.

Hey, I'm really sorry. But I don't have access to the recoverpoint setup as it is being managed by separate team. I will check with them and if they can share, I will surely post it here.

Further to the escalation mentioned in the original post, we have also found on of our RPA cluster set with recoverpoint having problem. So any replication set mapped to the RPA 2 having problem with failover. Storage team is still working on this without any luck. They may probably reconfigure recoverypoint cluster.

    Regards,

    Hari.

You don't have your RecoverPoint setup properly. It's most likely that you haven't set the permissions to allow SRM to control the CG failover status or the type of replica is not setup correctly. Contacting EMC is your best option at this point.

We have checked the policies in EMC and ensure policy is set for SRM to manage the replication array. This is right in place. Yesterday while we testing this, we got another error in between. here it is:

Unable to copy the configuration file. the operation experienced network error.

The same error mentioned in the release notes also. But don't know exactly what is causing this error. Now we some time get this error some time get the error mentioned in my first post. :smileysad:

we already opened a case with EMC and they are trying to identify the issue from yesterday. But couldn't get anywhere so far. I will open case with VMware also and will post the update. If you guys have any idea please let me know. It will be really helpful for me.

    Regards,

    Hari.

Hi Guys, any idea on the error "unable to copy the configuration file......"? I'm still stuck with this issue. EMC is saying everything is fine from their end. But we don't know yet what is causing this error!

Guys, I think I found the cause of the issue. But still need your help to resolve it. I have port group name INT_220 the portgroup with same name is available in DR also. So I have done network mapping between these. The machine on which I'm testing failover is mapped to this VLAN. Now I found that it these portgroup at DC and DR has different VLAN ID configured. Then I removed the network card from the Virtual Machine and try failover, now it is successful. Now I want to know why if the VLAN id is different it is failing and how I can configure it to accept different VLAN at destination.... Please help me to solve this....

    Thank you.

We opened case with VMware and finally sorted out the issue. Issue wasn't with RP or with SRM. Issue is with ESXi services. When we try to download anything from the datastore to local client it throws error "Operation timed out" immediately after we initiate the download. Then we tried restarting ESXi services services.sh restart.for all the hosts. Then everything started working so far. This ain't the same issue reported in the known issues of SRM!

    Hope this helps someone.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Hari.
