We are looking for new backup hardware that a small business can afford.

Currently, we are selling an external USB drive solution with rotating media.  The drives we sell can do USB 3.0, but it doesn't look like VMware has drivers for USB 3.0 yet so we are stuck using USB 2.0 - and USB throughput is pretty slow with ESXi.

The drives can also do eSata, but the eSata PCIe card will crash ESXi when the backup is started.  So it looks like USB & eSata are out.

Does anyone offer an inexpensive NAS solution that is combatible with ESXi and can do rotating media for taking offsite?

ESXi 5.0 supports USB 3.0 through the virtual hardware version 8, on xHCI controllers, and Linux OS only :smileyhappy:

You could always just buy a NAS box, turn on iSCSI, mount it on the ESXi host and use this :http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8760

    Speeds can vary though.
