I've created a new platform manually and entered in all of the config values but I'm not seeing the right interfaces displayed when viewing the switch. What I'm seeing looks like interfaces from another host that I'm currently monitoring while testing HQ.
I've read the documentation but don't see where I've messed up.
If I run snmpwalk -cpublic -v2c host_ip from my HQ box against the switch, I get all of the SNMP responses back.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
CTD

Hi,
your SNMP device must be reachable from the Agent you configure the new platform on.
You have to configure the ip adress of the switch twice: The first time is when you click on "New Platform". I'm pretty sure you've passed this dialog.
So after creating the platform, click on the platform from "Browse Resources", go to "Inventory" and the "Configuration Properties". Please edit the values and click on save.
I'm pretty sure HQs default values point to your localhost and maybe there is a SNMP-daemon running as well.
You will find a very good description how to enable SNMP monitoring in the "Test Ride Guide":

Mirko,
Thanks for the information. I do have the agent aimed at the IP address of the HP switch. I also am testing the SNMP monitoring of HQ against one of our Cisco switches. Both of the switches list the same interfaces when looking at the device's resources:
Group Members Avail
rdu-2924-edge1.rpstechnology.com rdu-2924-edge1 bond0 Interface (0:e:7f:f1:29:b)
rdu-2924-edge1.rpstechnology.com rdu-2924-edge1 eth0 Interface (0:e:7f:f1:29:b)
rdu-2924-edge1.rpstechnology.com rdu-2924-edge1 eth1 Interface (0:e:7f:f1:29:b)
rdu-2924-edge1.rpstechnology.com rdu-2924-edge1 lo Interface
rdu-2924-edge1.rpstechnology.com rdu-2924-edge1 sit0 Interface
Obviously, these are not switch interfaces.
My HQ config for the Cisco switch looks like this:
Type & Network Properties
Platform Type: Cisco IOS Fully Qualified Domain Name: rdu-2924-edge1.janeway.com
Agent Connection: 192.168.10.164:2144
IP Address: 10.40.1.11 Netmask:
MAC Address:
Configuration Properties
interface.index ifDescr snmpIp 10.40.1.11
snmpPort 161 snmpVersion v2c
snmpCommunity public snmpUser username
snmpPassword ******* snmpAuthType md5
platform.log_track.enable false platform.log_track.level Error
platform.log_track.include platform.log_track.exclude
I have setup the HP switch the same way.
Thank you,
CTD

Hi CTD,
yes configuration looks fine. Sorry, but I don't know how to help you anymore.
Make sure to run snmpwalk from the HQ Agent box (192.168.10.164), to check if you get the correct devices.
