  • 1.  Setup licensing on Virtual Center Server

    I am very new to VMWare, so forgive my ignorance please. I had virtual center server setup and working properly with my licensing, but I had to setup virtual center server on a new server, and now I am having problems making it my license server as well. I have the license file, but I'm not sure how to proceed, can anyone help?

    did you install the license server piece on the new vCenter Server? If not you can mount the vCenter Server CD and do a custom install and choose the license server piece

    Do you mean can I go to Administration and setup licensing, or is there something else I'm missing? How can I find out?

    sorry, under the vCenter Server .iso there is a Vmware-Licenseserver.exe file under the vpx folder, you can install it that way.

    Also, you can confirm whether you already installed the license server, by checked the services of the vCenter Hosts Server. There should be a VMware License Server Service present and it should be started.

    Once you confirmed you have a license source setup, you can point your ESX Hosts to that source through the Confiuration Tab and licensed features on the ESX Host(s)

    Also, through you vCenter Server you should have an Administration button and a licenses tab

    I am running in evaluation mode, and I would like to change it so that Virtual Center Server handles all of the licensing?

    Have you purchased your production licenses and centralized them into a single licens file?
