  • 1.  Second nic not detected during install [2 x Intel 82574L]

    Hi,

    I hope someone could help me with my 'little' problem, during the installation of esxi v5.0 on my new supermicro with onboard 2 x Intel 82574L gigabit vmware installer only detected 1 nic [ vmnic0 ] My motherboard is a Supermicro X9SCL-F

    How can I get vmware finding and adding this second nic?

    Any help much appreciated.

    After installation is visible the 2nd nic?

    Maybe it need to be enabled in the BIOS

    Yes, BIOS checked many times.

    Oops, just checked again my specifications and it seems i looked a wrong motherboard at Supermicro website.

    It seems my motherboard is different :-(

    • Intel® 82579LM and 82574L, 2x Gigabit LAN ports.
    • 1x Realtek RTL8201N PHY (dedicated IPMI)

    So, I need to find out now how to add this second nic [82579LM]

    Any one has done this before?

    Seems that these nic are not in VMware hcl.

    have you did a check?

    Yes, I checked the hardware list with manufacturer motherboard for compatibility and it was approved. otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.

    But this "approved" might be for only that one nic now :-(

    Hi Wabun

    Good to heared that you have checked on HCL list before buying it . Its not tuff to add 2nd NIC & it should detecte automatically, As its not happengin pease try another card of same brand and model .

    Yes, could add another card in it but unfortunately my only slot free is used for an LSI Megaraid SAS 9260-4i card.

    But I think I could 'live' with only 1 nic in it, good lesson to read everything and do more extensive research upfront.

    No idea why SM has put 3 different nics in this MB. but lucky the IPMI works fine.

    Anyway, this is my first VMware box so I suppose a lot to learn :-)

    Thanks your solution worked fine!

    No idea why VMware can't just add this driver, it is working fine for weeks now with testing, will go live with it now!
