  • 1.  Same VM in multiple protection groups

I have SRM configured with a number of protection groups for a situation where I lose the entire primary datacenter.

We have a planned maintenance window where I need to replace a few switches and I feel I do not need to recovery all the VMs to DR for this window of time.

I want to only move over one Domain Controller and a few critical VMs.  I logged into SRM and was surprised to see I cannot add an existing VM to another protection group at the same time.

Do I have any options here or would I need to start taking those VMs out of their existing groups and create new ones?

Hi, you can place the VM in different Recovery Plans

You should re-organize  your Protection Groups and recovery plans to match this kind of scenarios.
    See below example.

One important question is that, what is your replication method?

Are VMs replicated via vsphere replication or array-base replication,

If SRM configured with the vSphere replication so you can stop all unnecessary VM replication (because its based on VM level replication) but if your SRM configured with array base replication, all VMs replicated in a LUN on Storage (whole VMs palced in the datastore ), and you should migrate VMs that you want to replicate in a single (or multiple) datastore that replication configured . and reconfigure protection group and recovery plan.
