    Hi guys,

I have a question on the ROBO (VMware vSphere Remote Office Branch Office editions).

The official VMware documantation tell of "Site". (max 1 pack of 25 VMs for Site).

    What's the meaning?

It is possible buy 2 or 3 packs (for 50/75 vm) and use it for 12 sites, with 3 VMs for site, managed from the same. VCenter Standard edition?

Which is the control for determinate   is different sites?

    Thanks You

    Fabio

Yes, you can buy a dozen of ROBO (each 25 VMs) licenses and spread them over your remote offices. Per Site there is a max. of 25 VMs and 3 Hosts.

Within your MyVMware account you can divide a 25 VM Pack in  25x1 or 20+5 or 5x5 to get your ESXi keys.  Every ESXi or 3 Host Cluster than can joint your central vCenter Standard.

You can have more as 25 VMs on a robo site but only a max. of 25 running and countless idling VMs.

    Hi Joerg,

I went through your reply however, few doubts I have and I hope you will get this cleared:

    • Can we install on more than one hosts in the location using this location license, as long as we don’t exceed 25vm? : The answer is yes but not sure is there any limitation for esxi hosts?
    • If I have a company with the same legal entity name, even though on different location in India, it is ok? : The answer is yes but Per Site there is a max. of 25 VMs. Again not sure is there any limitation for esxi hosts?

    • How about if we have a different country and different legal entity name, but it is actually our branch offices, is it allowed as well?

    Regards

I thought it is all clear.

You can deploy up to 3 Hosts per Site. This 3 Hosts can hold up to 25 running VMs.

Iam not not sure if i understood answer 2 because this is the normal usecase for ROBO.

Yes it is allowed, but as general VMware defined that the license has to be sold IN THE COUNTRY the licensed is used. There is only one exception and this is the European Community.

    Hi Joerg,

    Thanks for your reply!

However, I was not able to found any VMware doc where it was mentioned to limit 3 esxi host per site.
