  • 1.  Reuse SSO Database

Hello - I am moving my vCenter server, lateral "move" of 5.1 U2 from old hardware to new.

I will be following this documentation (VMware KB: Migrating vCenter Server to a different host machine ) and am comfortable with the process I will be following.

With that said, I will be reinstalling SSO on the new vCenter as well.  Can I reuse the SSO DB that the existing vCenter host is using?  If so, do I simply point the new vCenter installation to the existing SSO DB, RSA?  The documentation above explains how to reuse the vCenter Database but not the SSO database.  I am unsure if the setup process will try to "rewrite" the contents of the SSO DB during install or not.

    Thanks in advance,

    Sean

Please take a back up of SSO DB and uninstall old SSO. Before installing new SSO, Just restore the backed up DB. This way you can preserve the DB.

While installing SSO, installer will not remove data from SSO DB but best practice is to take a backup of DB before uninstallation if you need that DB in future.

    Thanks,
