Restore Question - from NTFS to VMFS [ backup used VCB ]

Hi,

I have successfully backed up some vm's using VCB to a NTFS partition via a physical machine proxy server.

I am going to now archive those exact files & folders using Veritas 12D to tape.

My question is:

What good does this do? How might I actually benefit ?

This is how I think, do you agree?

If I were to create a new esx server, create a new Iscsi Lun for a VMFS datastore, how would I go about copying the exact restored TAPE files from a NTFS partition to a newly created VMFS(lun)?

Do I just use a standard Veam application to move those files into VMFS? Then I create a new virtual machine but tell it to use an existing file and point to one of those new freshly copied over VM's files[vdmk]??

Use the lastest Converter... It can restore VCB backups directly to VC..

The simple way is to use the vmware converter to import the vmdks back into ESX.

I almost understand. After I have the VM's folder, say "KB" restored the backup server's(win2k3r2) C:\ drive I somehow try to run the converter on that box to then input the "KB" Vm into the the VC?

Is that right?

I've used the converter for p2v purposes and also V2V for disk resizing but not for the restore?

Could you expand a bit if you have time , thanks

Ok so it doesn't matter where the converter is installed, it could be an xp, win2003 server and as long as it has access to VC and the restored files then I am set.
