Replace physical network adapter 1 Gb with 10 Gb

Hi there!

We want to perform a physical network adapter replacement on our server which is currently supporting 1 GB and install a new one that supports 10 Gb connectivity.

the question is do I have to make any changes to the virtual switch (VSS or VDS) once the adapter is changed or simply it will work fine with the new adapter?

Hi  

Yes, you have to add the new physical uplink adapters to the vSwitch. You also have to check that the required network driver for this network card is installed on your esx hosts (different driver for different NIC vendors). I would recommend that you add the 10Gb NIC to the existing 1Gb NIC so you can test it. After changing the physical uplink adapter on your vSwitch, you can remove the 1Gb NIC if necessary/possible (onboard).
