vNUMA is enabled by default only for VMs with 8 or more vCPU, but you can enable it for smaller VMs too. See last paragraph on page #48: http://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/techpaper/vmware-perfbest-practices-vsphere6-0-white-pa…

Yes, you can't have both features enabled: vNUMA is disabled if VCPU hotplug is enabled (2040375) | VMware KB

    Hi ,

As per the vmware pubs below is the details

Virtual NUMA topology is available to hardware version 8 virtual machines and is enabled by default when the number of virtual CPUs is greater than eight.

The first time a virtual NUMA enabled virtual machine is powered on, its virtual NUMA topology is based on the NUMA topology of the underlying physical host. Once a virtual machines virtual NUMA topology is initialized, it does not change unless the number of vCPUs in that virtual machine is changed.

The virtual NUMA topology does not consider the memory configured to a virtual machine. The virtual NUMA topology is not influenced by the number of virtual sockets and number of cores per socket for a virtual machine.

When I tested i saw if the hot add option enabled / disabled  , more 8 CPU assign numa is activating (Tested on # vCenter 6.0 u2 / ESXi 6.0)
