    Hi,

Can we use PTP for synchronizing time in a vSphere cluster? I know NTP is supported but PTP seems to be more accurate.

    Thanks,

    Ali

    Hello Ali,

You can use any time server irrespective that is in your LAN or internet, however ESXi connects to that host to validate the time.

If you want the same time to be replicated on the Clients, just make sure the option is checked on VM Tools on the clients, you may want to do this to make sure that the clients time does not go out of sync.

    Vamsi.

    Hello Vamsi,

Thanks for your response. The problem rises when the VM is restarted, which then the VM gets the time of the ESXi server and it does not keep its previous time.

    Regards,
    Ali

That is why it is advised to keep the time sunc from a network machine rather than a VM.

Thanks to Bharat for provideing the article.

This can be done by disabling the option in VM Tools on the VM for syncing the time from the host.

Please let us know if that helped you fix the issue.

    Vamsi.
