  • 1.  Production On ESXi when Upgrade vCenter Server

    Hello everybody, let me please to introduce first. my name is tama.

    oke, in this post i want to hear from everybody. what kind issue for my production on esxi when i'm upgrading a vCenter Server from 5.0 to 5.1.


    are esxi and my vm will down or not?becaase i'm worry about that, i hopefully when i'm upgrading a vCenter will not make a change for availability of my esx and vm for production.

    please provide ur mind all my friend :smileyhappy:

    No - upgrading vCenter wil not bring down any hosts or other VMs (assuming you've made sure all your versions are compatible).  Worst case scenario you will be unable to manage the environment via vCenter, but no VMs will fall over (although vMotion and DRS will cease to function).

    There is NO Downtime required for ESXi host or the VM's when upgrading the vCenter server.  Go through the following KB's before starting the upgrade process if not done already
