  • 1.  Port forwarding vms in ESXi

    Hi. 

     

    I'm 100% new to this and currently troubleshooting some issues with getting outside connections to connect to a server running on a VM unit running ESXi.

     

    My question is do I need to take any unique steps setting up port forwards on VMs running via ESXi? Or would I just use the normal procedures I'd use on a traditional machine? I'm just eliminating possible problems but I'm running out of ideas as to why I can't get non-local connections to servers on machines running within this set up.

     

    Any information is appreciated. I know it might be a dumb question but it's pretty much day one for me.

    Your port forwarding logic would point directly to the VM(s).

    I'm still super new to this. Would it be satisfactory to just port forward through my router to the vms IP addresses on the network and open the ports through windows firewall on the individual vms? Or are there any steps I have to take through the ESXi interface as well?

    Nope, that's all you should have to do. From a VM and network perspective, ESX is an abstracted layer. They don't even know it exists.
