  • 1.  Please Help! Esxi host main ip address is not accessible!

    Posted Apr 16, 2017 11:02 AM

    Hello community

We using the ESXi virtualization over the years.

All of our hosts main IP addresses goes down on the same date and same datacenter, but still virtual machines are fine and working like before.

Datacenter says there is no problem with the network, and everything is ok in the ESXi host when we checking in the KVM console.

Also hosts coming back online one by one for a short time and goes down again after several minutes.

Now we can't access to the VMware Vsphere client, we do not have ping to the main ip address and overall we don't have management access to the servers.

What can we do with this problem?

    Please help us.

    Thank you

Hello, sounds like an interesting problem.  I would love to help but need a little clarification.

First, When you say your "main" ip address, is that refereing to accessing the Vcenter.  If so are you attmepting to access it through the desktop client or web client?

When refering to "hosts" are you talking about ESXi hosts?  and if so, how are you trying to access those machines?

Do any of the servers/host respond to a ping? Pathping?  Are you attempting to access them via IP or DNS name?  If there is a DNS name is it still resolving?

I look forward to your answers.

    Hello AaronRose

    Thank you for your attention

-First, When you say your "main" ip address, is that refereing to accessing the Vcenter.  If so are you attmepting to access it through the desktop client or web client?

We also trying for the connecting directly, like web client or desktop client, even ssh, there is no way to access (IP and other client services).

-When refering to "hosts" are you talking about ESXi hosts?  and if so, how are you trying to access those machines?

Yes, I'm talking about ESXi 6 and 5.1 . in the normal situation each ESXi host is connected to the same Vcenter server, and we having access to it.

But in this situation we should wait till each ESXi host coming back online and again we can access to it for a short time.

Do any of the servers/host respond to a ping? Pathping?  Are you attempting to access them via IP or DNS name?  If there is a DNS name is it still resolving?

There is no response when we trying to ping, Both inside and outside of the server. also when we checking the server in downtime status, everything is ok about configuration and network just like before.

DNS is not configured with the ESXi host but IP address is not accessible.

+ in our last conversation with datacenter, support says "all of the ports in your server is closed and you should check the firewall configuration". so we trying to disabling the firewall on each ESXi host but still goes down.

+ in the first day of this problem, all of our ESXi hosts gone down but after 48 hours 2 of thems is ok and stable. but others not.

+ screen shot of the host's activity is attached, you can see how many time it goes down and coming back online in past 48 hours.

    Hello,

Have you tried to take the console from DCUI.

&& if that is also not working, pl try to take the console from Server (H/W) KVM console. You just try to restart the Host Management Services.

    ----

In any case restarting the server may solve your problem.

    Hello

As they go down without reason, they are going up without touch.

We don't know where is the problem but in the same case that I found in our country forums. it coming back online with no touch just like this.

It should have a reason! Who knows!?
