  • 1.  Performing a P2V of a SQL server hosting the VC database

    We have the SQL database for Virtual Center running on a Windows 2000/SQL2000 physical server. We want to virtualize this server.

    My plan is to disable the SQL services, begin the conversion using the Converter 3.x tool, and then enable the SQL services on the new virtual machine once its booted and stable. However I dont know if it is necessary to be able to access the virtual center SQL database while doing a conversion (which in this case, the DB would be unavailable until the new VM is started up).

    is it doable?

    You can convert the machine, but it will have to go directly to an ESX Server host and not via VirtualCenter.
