Does VMware recognise these new PCIe SSD devices?

Highly doubtful. I was able to see online articles dating back to May of 2009, but no mention of ANY resellers/channels outside of the Japan region (the manufacturer's page is looking for distributors for outside of the Japan region). IF they ever do get out to the rest of the world, AND they are listed on the HCL, then ESX/ESXi will support them (officially). Does that mean they won't work if listed? No, just you won't get any official blessing, or support, on them from VMware. A rather expensive item to buy without knowing it it will actually work (or not)... That is, IF you can even locate a reseller in your area (outside of Japan at least).

there seems to be a few manufactures producing these after doing a quick google search - yes a bit expensive. I guess it boils down to which driver they use. I see LSI have a device I wonder if they are using a generic driver? not too fused about official support just aslong as I can create VMFS paritions :smileyhappy:

I'm waiting for SSD storage to become reasonably priced before I even think about using it. For everything I need to run, SAS drives are more than sufficient. Not to mention you have many more options there, with different price points per GB of storage. I'm also waiting for the SSD's to be actually in production long enough to prove they have longevity in actual environments. Right now, they're simply far too new to have my trust.

Besides, for the cost of just one of those cards I can buy either a new server (tricked out rather nicely) or be on my way to a really robust iSCSI storage solution (enterprise grade) with far more storage.

my plan is to use is as a read cache area with a falconstor iscsi virtual appliance - I can attach an SSD drive to my HP SAS Array controller and do this, I just noticed that the PCI-e cards were a lot faster (but also cost a lot more)

may stick with the standard SSD drive 250MBS read plan, unless anyone else has tested the PCI-e devices
