Patches for ESXi Rel. 5.x

are Patches available for Download, e.g "ESXi500-201207001"

My main Question is, are all this Patches applicable for the FREE ESXi or are intended only for the Licensed VMware ?

Another question, where I can find downloadable Release Notes in PDF form ?

i think the patches are for all versions because you can change the lic from free to enterprise plus iirc.

what you are limited by is the lic not the exlusion of any binaries

is not clear enough to me, because as example in Download is a Update1 Downloadable, and the Update1b is not or better to say is only available for Customer which have purchased a License/Maintenance Contract.

ESXi patches are applicable for both free and PAID version

because as example in Download is a Update1 Downloadable, and the Update1b is not

Only ESXi update1 is avilable and released,  Update1a and Update1b are relased only for the vCenter server for which you need a license.

I havent see an relases notes in PDF format yet.

I think I've a problem with me self to Understand the difference beetwen both release.

let me please ask a bit different / precise.

In "Support and Downloads" > "Product Download"

here are listed TWO VMware listed called:

VMware v-Sphere

http://www.vmware.com/go/download-vsphere

and

VMware v-Sphere Hypervisor (ESXi)

http://www.vmware.com/go/download-vspherehypervisor

Question:

Is mean, Hyphervisor ESXi stay indicate FREE Edition ?

from my point of view this is a bit frustrated, I'm the opinion is most practicable to have release Notes as Downloadable PDF Form instead Online HTML.

Yes it mean the Free ESXi Edition.

ESXi 5.0 U1 binaries is same for all version (both PAID and Free) only the lincese key which we use unlocks the required features applicable for the license keys

All ESXi patches are applicable to all license types (the free license and any paid license), because the installation media and program code is always the same, and only the license key makes the difference in functionality.

Each ESXi patch is documented in a KB article that is mentioned in the information/properties of the patch. E.g. for ESXi500-201207001 this is http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2019107. For Update releases (like the current Update 1) of ESXi 5.0 extensive release notes are made available in HTML format (see http://www.vmware.com/support/vsphere5/doc/vsp_esxi50_u1_rel_notes.html). I'm not aware of any publically available release notes in PDF format though.

Just apply the following commands in CLI mode (Alt + F1) in Free ESXi edition.

"esxcli software vib update --maintenance-mode --depot /vmfs/volumes/datastore1/ESXi500-201207001.zip"

If you have vSphere Centre.. patching is all so easy.

The above is for standalone ESXi host.

Go to console (The yellow console) and press Alt-F1 to go to shell mode.

I appreciate your input, but my question was native related to available patches and difference between the Releases/Version and not "How to start or applied Patches or Upgrade"
