P2V Sco Unix systems

    Hi there.

Can anyone tell me how to convert a Sco Unix server to a Virtual Machine? As far as I can see the converter only works with Windows based system.

The physical server is starting to fail and we no longer have the expertise to recreate the server from scratch.

    Many Thanks

I would probably use a cloning tool like G4L to create a disk image and send it to an FTP server.

Then use G4L within a SCO configured VM then clone it to the vmdk

depends SCO 5.0.7 can be done - 3.2 is a pain

    Hello,

It can be done using VMware vCentre Converter ColdClone Boot CD (Availbale from VMware for Entprise customers).

Or using free tool called MOA http://sanbarrow.com/moa.html (You need to register to download).

The step-by-step is very clear and easy.

There are lkots of successfull reports of P2V of SCO Openserver 5.0.X / OpenServer 6.0.0 and UnixWare 7.1.X using either

    one of the above tools.

    Hope this helps.

(You need to register to download).

not any more - registration is no longer required - I changed that a few weeks ago.

Only if you want to join my forum you have to register.

About P2V SCO with MOA ...

the imaging is the easy part - patching the drivers is the tricky one

Has someone already tried successfully P2V of SCO unix using MOA http://sanbarrow.com/moa.html?

with SCO the imaging part is by far the easier part.

Doing the driver patching is the tricky part and Converter does NOT help here.

You find pretty adavanced instructions to P2V latest SCO in the net - if you need to P2V SCO 3.2 then I would suggest you take a holiday of 2 weeks to research it ... I gave up after 2 weeks

    Sorry, I mean P2V of SCO 5.0.6 and not SCO 3.2 .

BTW I have done a disk image of SCO 5.0.6 using G4L and recovered on a VM from ESX4, but it doesn't work.

It seems to create a wrong partitions system.

    Hi

    SCO 5.0.6 should be possible.

I would create the vmdk with vmware-vdiskmanager or dd.

Can you explain what you think is wrong ?

How do you use MOA if you cannot buy Cold Clone? We have a UNIX 7.1.3 server that we would like to take as is, clone it and convert into a virtual machine without having to reinstall everything.

I have downloaded MOA and have not idea what I am doing let alone the tutorials? So, I don't think MOA will do what I need it to.

    Any advice is helpful.

    Hi

I am the author of MOA - if you followed the video tutorial you should now have a coldcloneCD similar to the one from VMware - just with better drivers.

If you have any special questions ... go ahead and ask them
