  • 1.  P2V reverses C: and D: drives

    Posted Nov 27, 2008 03:00 PM

For some reason when I booted my physical machine on Vconverter the C: and D: drive were reversed. However, the graphics showed the C: drive, which was labeled D:, as the system drive. So the graphics were correct but the drive letters were not. I'm doing the conversion to see if it will be correct but if not, how do I correct this?

Do you convert with Cold Clone CD ? - can you post a screenshot ?

I did, I booted off the CD. I could not convert using the VIC, i kept receiving an err that it couldn't open a file when it started. I can't get a screenshot off the cold boot CD.

I then would finish the task as is and before trying to start the VM the first time I would check drive-letter assignment with a BartPE disk.

Then I would create a snapshot and test. if the driveletters really come up reversed you can edit that with a BartPE.

You would have to edit the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices

Thanks, if I can do it, I'll try it but I'm not sure if it's going to finish. I've been stuck at 77% for half an hour now.

Next time use MOA instead of the Cold Clone CD - with that you could have fixed drive-letters before actually starting the conversion.

With original Cold Clone CD you are helpless in such cases :|

    Have a look here:

I maintain a BartPE-LiveCD that can run Converter starter edition in cold clone mode.

This CD has a explorer-shell like regular Windows so you can use diskmanagement before launching Converter.

That doesn't help when Converter itself has problems - but it does help in cases like yours when the PE system detects drives in a different sequence than the oroginal system does.
