  • 1.  P 2 V Unable to create a VSS Error code 2147754774

    VM Forum Team,

            I have attempted on 5 separate attempts to convert a P2V machine using a hot back up ( due to encrypted disk).

    Each time it fails with the following error code: FAILED: Unable to create a VSS snapshot of the source volume(s). Error code: 2147754774 (0x80042316).

    I have tried the following remediation steps to accomplish a work around:

    • Selective startup eliminating all non-core services
    • Re-register of VSS components
    • Login of local admin / Run converter as admin
    • Clear registry of sub VSS backup items
    • Disable all antivirus

    At this point I am look for any further recommendations.

    Specs:

    • Converter 5.1 - 875114
    • Host OS Win 7 SP1 32 bit on NTFS (w/ Sophos Encryption)
    • Image size 320 GB

    Advice would be appricated.. the log is attached to this msg.

    * Follow on question, could I use MS backup to create a system image and then convert that to VDMK?*

    VSS is Microsoft system component, you should search in msdn forum. Also you should search/ask 'Sophos Encryption' support about this issue.

    The Converter will not start P2V task without sucessful snapshot.

    Check out the manual about supported 3rd party disk formats.
