After some research, I've come up with the following strategy for installing Oracle on my 2.4 GHZ MacBook Pro. I'd appreciate any comments on the approach and the assumptions.

    1. Ordered VMWare Fusion from Amazon (saving a few bucks but I have to wait a few days).

    2. Ordered 4 GB Memory from Crucial to replace my 2 GB.

    3. Planning to buy a small Firewire-800 portable HD to host the VM maybe VMs.

    4. Downloaded Bert Scalzo's "Oracle on VMware" Virtual Appliance (Linux and Oracle bundled)

After I install VMWare and set up my first VM, will installing the "Oracle on VMWare" Virtual Appliance be intuitive or is there something I should know?

    hello everyone,

    very nice indeed!

It helped me a lot because setting up a trial Oracle 11g Enterprise edition keeps failing in the configuration part

of the EM... (same in windows and linux). I would appreciate a similar effort with 11g not just the 10XE.

I tried to execute it in the free VMWare server 2.0 and it complains about invalid vmdk file!! It is strange, because

I managed to open it with other free virtualisation tools (vbox) . Nevertheless, I really like the VMWare console (it can associate multiple cores!!)

and I really want to use it in Server 2.0.

please advise if others are having similar problem - because I do not know what I am doing wrong....

    regards

    mike
