  • 1.  Oracle licensing on cloud/virtual environment

    Posted Aug 20, 2017 05:34 PM

    Hi all,

Recently i was informed by colleague that VM machines runing Oracle products will be licensed according to vMotion capability.

    i.e

    a. entire ESXi for VMware 5.1 due to cross cluster vMotion  capability

    b. entire vCenter for VMware 6.0 due to long distance vMotion capability.

    1. Anyone know or experience about this?

    2. How to tackle  and mitigate this issue?

    Hello Hesyam,

    1. Yes, there are licensing implications regarding this, great info covering this in detail in this (current) document:

    vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/whitepaper/solutions/oracle/understanding_oracle_certification_support_licensing_vmware_environments-white-paper.pdf

    2. The above document details this, e.g. host-affinity rules, dedicated clusters for these applications, cloud-based alternatives etc.
