Very good appliance, and iscsi work pretty well with esx 3.

    Great job dude

BTW, Vmtools are not install so be carefull when power off

Nic is by default vlance, you ca change it to e1000, just change the vmx with - ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"

and kudzu will do the rest at the next reboot.

oups, openfiler only work with the first iscsi volune that you assign to esx3, the other will be wrong recognize with the same capacity has the first one, of course not usable. have try (esxcfg-swiscsi -k) (esxcfg-swiscsi -e) and reboot but with no success. grrrrrr

You must change the LUN number for each iSCSI target created by OpenFiler. For now this can be done manually by editing the /etc/ietd.conf file. Just put a different LUN number for each volume like 0, 1, 2 etc. and restart the iSCSI service. Be carefull when you create additional iSCSI volumes as this will reset all the LUNS to 0.

Has anyone discovered any replication for Openfiler? I want to replicate the array to another location and do not want to use Host based replication.

We downloaded this VM and loaded it on our SAN. We browsed to the VMX file and added it to the inventory but it says "invalid" in the ESX inventory. Any help?

The VM was built for Player - did you import it for use with ESX?

    vmkfstools -i

There seems to be a problem with the download (via bittorrent).

The file seems to be corrupt.

I've tried downloading it twice already.

Is anyone using the OpenFiler (virtual or not) in a production environment? This looks promising for program storage in a Xen migration strategy. Any comments?

Yes I would love to download OpenFiler.

Ditto, i am sure 95% of company firewalls dont have the ports open for BT.

Downloaded the software, installed it as a virtual machine under windows XP. However, I do not have LDAP, NIS, or Windows Domain setup, can I still use it to have shared file volumes to be used between linux servers and/or Windows systems? If yes, then how do I set that up?

    Thanks.

Call "HostDatastoreSystem.CreateNasDatastore" for object "ha-datastoresystem" on ESXi "172.16.192.135" failed.

Operation failed, diagnostics report: Unable to complete Sysinfo operation. Please see the VMkernel log file for more details.

I've updated the Openfiler system, added new storage vmdk and created volume \ volume group using XFS file system.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Matt

Great how to on how to use Open Filer for Virtualized iSCSI - I followed this and got it to work.

    http://www.vladan.fr/how-to-configure-openfiler-iscsi-storage-for-use-with-vmware-esx/

Dont forget to bind the iSCSI initiator to the vmkernel port on the ESX server for software initiated iSCSI.

If you want to know about setting DBRD (this is the replication side of OF) on opefiler refer to this nifty little article as well. I will go through setting up my lab again and try to get a vid posted on youtube.

I hope this helps til then.
